Robyn Gabel?

State Representative Robyn Gabel wholeheartedly fights for the interests of our district in Springfield. She is a stalwart defender of the rights of women, voters, and those impacted by the justice system.

Robyn Gabel is from Evanston, IL, and has represented the people of the 18th District in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2010. Throughout her career, Robyn Gabel has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the people of Illinois as an advocate for all, especially women, children and the most disadvantaged. During her time in the House, she has earned a reputation as an independent legislative leader, successfully passing numerous sponsored bills.

Robyn’s areas of focus have been ensuring the safety of our children, expanding access to social services, championing environmental and clean energy issues including efforts to promote wind, solar and other renewable energy, guaranteeing the rights of women and children, reforming government to be inclusive and effective, providing easily accessible voting rights, advocating for fair wages and reducing and preventing gun violence. 

Her legislative record has won recognition from the Illinois Environmental Council, March of Dimes, Midwest Asian Health Association, the ARC of Illinois, Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force and the Illinois Public Health Association, among others.  She is Chair of the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus of the Council of State Governments and a recipient of the Toll Fellowship for governmental leadership.

In 2021 Robyn was appointed an Assistant Majority Leader in the new Speaker of the House’s leadership team.  Robyn also serves on the  Appropriations – Human Services Committee and Energy and Environment Committee, as well as being a member of the committees on Insurance, Museums, Arts and Cultural Enhancements, Human Services and State Government.  Robyn was Chair of the Illinois Legislative Green Caucus from 2017 – 2020, a non-partisan group of energy conscious legislators.

Before coming to the legislature she served as the Executive Director of the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition (since renamed EverThrive Illinois) from 1988 to 2010. She has a B.A. from Beloit College and M.S.P.H. from the University of Illinois Chicago, School of Public Health. She also has an M.J. in health law from Loyola University Chicago.
